UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Mahabodhi Temple Complex is the most significant UNESCO World Heritage Site in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India. It marks the exact location where Prince Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment, becoming the Buddha over 2,500 years ago. The complex includes the 50-meter-high main temple, the Vajrasana (Diamond Throne), the sacred Bodhi Tree, and several ancient stupas and meditation .The present structure dates from the 5th–6th centuries, though the site has been venerated since the Mauryan period, with Emperor Ashoka establishing the first temple in the 3rd century BCE
